What We’re Using Herbivore Botanicals Lapis Facial Oil

There are few things better than summer in New York City. The streets are bustling with people, there are endless events from outdoor movies to concerts in the park, and call me crazy, but I love the humidity. However, my skin does not. I always notice my complexion take an unfortunate turn come June, when the heat takes all the oxygen out of the air and my skin begins to overcompensate for the lack of moisture. And then comes the humidity, and with it, my ever-present “summer glow.” Needless to say, it’s is a constant game of reading my skin and working with different products to counteract the unpredictable conditions. My routine goes out the window.

One of my recent additions to my skin cocktail: Herbivore’s Lapis Oil Balancing Facial Oil. Because my skin is on the oilier side, I’ve never been drawn to serums or facial oils. However, I recently learned that using a daily oil, with the right ingredients, can actually help balance hydration in any kind of skin. Herbivore’s oil is especially successful at that as it contains amaranth squalane, a seed extract that is high in linoleic acid.

What is linoleic acid? Linoleic acid is an omega-6 fatty acid attached to glycerin that has been proven to help reduce breakouts and UV pigmentation. When applied to the skin, it works to break apart sebum on the surface that clogs pores and causes breakouts. Linoleic acid makes the oil thinner and lighter, allowing the oil to moisturize the skin without being too heavy or sticky. Acne-prone skin is known to be low in linoleic acid and high in oleic acid, so adding more to your skin routine could be a huge game changer.

Combined with blue tansy, jojoba oil, and kukui oil, Herbivore’s prodcut absorbs quickly into the pores without clogging them, while also reducing red spots along the way.

Pro Tips:

1. For those who are nervous to dive into the oil world or are fearful of their oily complexion, only apply it at night before bed.

2. I mix a drop of oil with my spot corrector if I have dry spots or breakouts. Not only does it reduce the redness, but it also helps the concealer go on smoother and stay on longer.

Instructions: apply 3-5 drops after cleansing the skin.
