Although many of our favorite stores are gender-specific, there are some excellent locations that not only stock the brands you want and love but also eliminate the painful experience for which our loved ones have caused to resent us. Pick something up for you, and something up for your boy—everybody wins, and you’ve just gained a new (unlikely) shopping buddy.
Focusing on blending modern clothes with nostalgic touches, Frances May is a perfect assortment of well-curated, indie designers. You are more than likely going to be spending a couple hours here, so dinner reservations should be pushed back. This Portland gem stocks low-profile names like Jesse Kamm and Robert Geller with megabrands like A.P.C, in perfect harmony.
Seattle’s Totokaelo is the industrial-cool space of your dreams. From the architecture to the store design to the product, this boutique will turn anyone into a minimalist. Although the clothing will be impossible to disregard, make the art and home goods a priority. Acne Studios, Margiela and Junya Watanabe are a small list of the designers you can find at Totokaelo.
Since launching in 2014, Concrete + Water has to be one of Williamsburg’s most inviting shops—and certainly one of Brooklyn’s best assortments. With lines such as Commune de Paris for the guys and Kaarem for the ladies, Concrete + Water also offers chic ceramics to add to the home.
Exceptionally well-made clothing and home goods—what more could you ask for? Board of Trade in Vancouver stocks obscure vendors for a truly unique stock: we love their selection of WWAKE jewels and Blankhof backpacks.
Mohawk General Store provides Los Angeles' residents and visitors with fashion-forward, simple and intricately crafted clothing. Since the men's store is next door to the women's, you get a connected-yet-separated shopping experience—close enough for a second opinion, but far enough to discourage hovering. Pick yourself up some sandals from À Detacher and get him his Norse Projects shirt, if you’re feeling generous. The only thing better than a well-dressed dude is a well-dressed couple, right?
