The Clean Program

With a new year comes new goals. My biggest for 2017: getting my body as healthy as possible. From exercising daily to switching up my eating routine, I’ve made it my mission to further understand my body and treat it so that I’m performing at my optimal level. 

Back in November, I received an email from the Clean Program asking if I wanted to join a group cleanse in January. For some reason, I jumped at the idea. It was mid-holiday, I had had one too many holiday cookies, and knew I needed to do some major detoxing in the New Year. I forwarded the email to Joe Holder, founder of The Ocho System, Nike trainer/health god (who also moonlights as my bff), to see if I could convince him to do it with me. 

For those of you who remember, I did this cleanse a year ago and documented it on the site. The Clean Program is a 21-day cleanse geared at clearing out toxins from your body and replacing them with nutrients to set your body back to its neutral state. Unfortunately these toxins come in the form of everything I cherish in life: gluten, dairy, eggs, beef, sugar, strawberries, bananas, nightshade veggies, coffee, and alcohol. And if that wasn't enough to give me a heart attack, the cleanse calls for one real meal a day (lunch) and their shake for breakfast and dinner. My first time around was intense. I was exhausted, uncomfortable, and desperately craved a night out with friends with spaghetti and a bottle of wine. But midway through I felt a dramatic shift in my body. My face decompressed, skin cleared up, the whites of my eyes were brighter than ever, and had a new source of energy that kept me going all day, coffee-free. In the end, I came out healthier and had a new outlook on how my body is affected by what I put in it. 

So today is Day 1, part 2. I’m so excited to have Joe with me this time around to provide you with his extensive background in health and wellness (and so that I'm not drinking my smoothie alone every night). We’ll be documenting our experience here with personal journals, Q&As, and a ton of other surprises.
